Press Release – UPDATE – Final Carbondale Main Street Incident
Wednesday, February 1, 2006 2000 hours
At approximately 1755 hours the Grand Junction Fire Department Bomb Squad arrived on the scene. According to Incident Commander Carl Smith, the Bomb Squad x-rayed the suspicious pipe for evaluation and then took it outside via robot to detonate the cap.
At 2000 hours the evacuated area in downtown Carbondale was declared safe.
Cooperating agencies include: Garfield County Sheriff, Basalt Fire, Carbondale Police, Carbondale Fire District, Town of Carbondale, Grand Junction Fire Department Bomb Squad.

Any evacuated persons can take shelter at the Carbondale Middle School, located at 455 S. Third Street in Carbondale.
The Fire Dept and the Police Dept are taking a cautious approach to this incident. At this time there is no danger to the public. The Fire and Police Departments ask for the public’s patience and cooperation for the next few hours.
Additional responding agencies are the Town of Carbondale, Grand Junction Bomb Squad and Basalt Fire Department.
